From the beginning of their law careers, brothers Barrie G. Sullivan II and Kerry L. Sullivan had planned to go into practice together in Colorado. After relocating from Boston, the brothers practiced separately for several years before joining forces in 1982 as Sullivan and Sullivan.
Avid baseball fans, Barrie and Kerry had tickets to a key Rockies game in 1995. They decided to invite a colleague to the game to discuss a case. Peter H. McGuire also worked with workers' compensation and Social Security disability (SSDI) cases — from the other side. He served as in-house counsel for a major insurance company, and worked as defense counsel for a Denver law firm representing employers and insurers.
In the process of their discussion, the brothers recognized the depth of understanding, intelligence and personality embodied in Peter and later invited him to join the firm. Accepting their invitation, Peter became part of the firm in 1996.
